The Role

Veeva is seeking a Frontend Architect to shape the user interface of our global platform for Life Sciences. This visible, high-leverage role requires an engineer who pairs a strong intuition for interface ergonomics with the ability to operate at a deep level of technical abstraction. You will deliver the frontend infrastructure, design system, and component library that thousands of developers use to build applications that transform medical breakthroughs into life-changing patient care.
What You'll Do
    • Technical Leadership: Mentor and technically lead a team of talented software engineers, shaping their professional development. Define and promote frontend standards, best practices, and architectural guidelines to ensure cohesive execution across the engineering organization
    • Composable UI Architecture: Architect reusable and coherent component frameworks. You will develop a foundational design system and component library that scales across multiple applications and use cases
    • Interface Ergonomics: Establish comprehensive guidelines for interaction patterns, guiding teams on how to effectively utilize standard UI controls to construct intuitive, seamless, and productive human-computer interfaces
    • Developer Experience & Tooling: Own the frontend development process and build systems. In coordination with DevOps, you will evolve the infrastructure that empowers internal developers to build, test, and ship UI components reliably and rapidly
    • Testing Strategy & Quality: Evolve our frontend testing strategy by advancing robust unit, integration, and end-to-end (E2E) methodologies that deliver consistency and high confidence in UI deployments
    • AI-Ready Documentation: Set the standard for meticulous, highly structured documentation detailing component usage, architectural patterns, and standards—specifically optimized to be consumed by both human engineers and autonomous AI development agents
    • Hands-on Engineering: Code agentically and manually, maintaining deep technical ownership as both a designer and programmer
Requirements
    • Engineering Maturity: A career-spanning track record (typically 10+ years) of building complex systems. You are deeply technical and hands-on, bringing insight gained from observing the long-term consequences of architectural decisions
    • Core Technologies: Expert-level proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, and React. You understand the idiosyncrasies of JavaScript and the inner workings of React
    • Browser Internals & Rendering: Nuanced understanding of the browser's event loop, rendering, and layout pipeline. You are highly skilled in DOM manipulation, minimizing layout thrashing, optimizing recalculations and reflow, and ensuring fluid, high-frame-rate interactions
    • State Management & Persistence: Extensive experience orchestrating complex client-side state. You are well-versed in patterns like Redux, React Context, state machines, or signal-based reactivity, and know when to apply global vs. local state in a composable architecture. You also know how to effectively manage client-side storage mechanisms (Cookies, Local Storage, IndexedDB)
    • Data Fetching & API Architecture: Comprehensive experience bridging the frontend-backend divide. You are adept at managing network waterfalls, data hydration, and modern data-fetching paradigms (REST, GraphQL) to ensure fast, scalable client-server communication
    • Styling Architecture: Advanced mastery of CSS fundamentals and the cascading model. You have proven experience managing large-scale styling architecture and are highly literate in multiple approaches, including CSS Modules, CSS-in-JS, utility-first frameworks, and global theming systems
    • Internationalization & Accessibility: Extensive experience architecting applications with integral support for internationalization (i18n), localization, and globalization. Proficiency with web accessibility (a11y), including WCAG standards, ARIA roles, and semantic HTML
    • Asset & Loading Optimization: Mastery of frontend performance tuning. You have extensive experience with HTTP headers, cache busting strategies, asset chunking, and fine-tuning CSS and JavaScript loading priorities. You understand when to utilize WebSockets and Service Workers
    • Build Systems & Tooling: Expertise in configuring and optimizing modern frontend build tools and bundlers (Webpack, Vite, Rollup). You have strong experience with modern test frameworks (Jest, RTL, Playwright) and establishing test automation, static analysis, and linting practices
    • Frontend Security: Thorough understanding of web security fundamentals. You are experienced in preventing common frontend vulnerabilities (XSS, CSRF) by design, configuring Content Security Policies (CSP), and safely managing third-party scripts
    • Observability & Telemetry: Experience implementing frontend observability. You know how to track Core Web Vitals and structure error logging to diagnose complex client-side issues in production
    • Agentic Development: Experience in AI-assisted development (Claude Code) to drive engineering velocity while maintaining professional code quality. Preferably, you have introduced agentic development workflows and driven AI adoption across an organization. Experience delivering autonomous agents as product features is highly desirable
    • Mentorship Impact: A proven track record of elevating engineers and teams. You have mentored individuals through design challenges and established quality and coding standards that improved the collective output of your organization
    • Work Authorization & Location: Unrestricted right to work in the United States is required. Veeva will not provide visa sponsorship at this time. This is an optionally remote position, but you must reside and work in the Pacific or Mountain time zones for effective collaboration
Perks & Benefits
    • Medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance
    • Flexible PTO and company paid holidays
    • Retirement programs
    • 1% charitable giving program
Compensation
    • Base pay: $180,000 - $300,000
    • The salary range listed here has been provided to comply with local regulations and represents a potential base salary range for this role. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range above or below, depending on experience and location. Work Where It’s Best for You

Work Anywhere means you can work in an office or at home on any given day. It’s about getting the work done in the way and place that works best for each person. This applies across all locations and departments.

Work Anywhere does not mean work at any time. We have predictable core hours where employees are generally available for meetings and collaboration. Employees are focused and available during core hours.

We invest in our offices to make them places where our employees like to go. If you work in the office three or more days a week, you will have a dedicated office workspace. Our offices function as hubs to draw people in, create social bonds, and where random connections and mixing of ideas happen. We’re investing more in offices, culture, and offsite meetings, not less.

Product teams are organized in regional product hubs for optimal collaboration and live within a time zone of their hub. Our current product hubs are located in Pleasanton, Columbus, Boston, Kansas City, New York City, Raleigh, and Toronto. We create opportunities for teams to get together in person regularly.

Customer-facing roles, such as Sales and Professional Services, live near and/or travel to their customers.

When an employee moves within a country it does not cause a change in salary. Where you live impacts you and your family. Not knowing if your compensation will change if you move can cause stress and uncertainty for everyone. We wanted to eliminate that.

Work at Veeva. Work where it’s best for you.

A different kind of company. A Public Benefit Corporation.

Unlike a traditional corporation, whose only legal duty is to maximize shareholder value, PBCs consider their public benefit purpose and the interests of those materially affected by the corporation’s conduct—including customers, employees, and the community—in addition to shareholders’ interests.

What sets us apart

In February 2021, Veeva became the first public company to convert to a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC).

Unlike a traditional corporation, whose only legal duty is to maximize shareholder value, PBCs consider their public benefit purpose and the interests of those materially affected by the corporation’s conduct—including customers, employees, and the community—in addition to shareholders’ interests.

Veeva’s public benefit purpose is to help make the industries we serve more productive and create high-quality employment opportunities.

At Veeva, we believe in giving back. Veeva’s support for charitable causes is entirely employee driven because we think giving is personal and should be directed by the individual. With our 1% Veeva Giving program, each employee receives an amount equivalent to 1% of their base salary annually to support the non-profit(s) of their choice. We don’t dictate favored corporate causes or ask employees to donate to specific non-profits. We never support a charitable cause in exchange for commercial advantage or preferential treatment.

Veeva’s core values — do the right thing, customer success, employee success, and speed — guide our decision making and define our culture. Doing the right thing means that we are concerned about more than just financial success and return to shareholders. We recognize a responsibility to customers, employees, environment, and society. As individuals, we pride ourselves on being good people who are honest, fair, and direct. We treat others with respect. As a company, we strive to be a good corporate citizen, a positive force in the business community, active in our communities, and an example to others.

Our equity program is designed to enable the vast majority of our employees to participate. Our unique approach to awarding equity grants allows our employees to be shareholders so they can benefit financially in the company’s growth.

Veeva has taken a strong stance against the use of non-compete agreements that can limit employee opportunities. We do not require our employees to sign non-compete agreements, and we have taken legal action to fight the unfair use of these agreements by other companies because we believe such agreements limit an employee’s fundamental right to work where they choose. We believe in our people and want them to be successful here at Veeva or wherever their careers take them.
